Playing with Ultralight Materials

Since the inception of Superstix Surfboards we have experimented with new materials and techniques to further enhance the performance of the board.  Our latest test case has been with the use of carbon-fiber strips along the stringer on the bottom of the board combined with EPS epoxy.  While the use of carbon strips is nothing new, we have found that their use in our EPS epoxy boards has resulted in a board that is ridiculously lightweight and strong enough to land big airs without breaking.

Ask us about the carbon-fiber/EPS combination when ordering your next custom Superstix.

Superstix Represented at NSSA State Championships

Jack Boyes surfing for Huntington Beach High School

Superstix Surfboards was well represented at the recent NSSA Interscholastic State Championships held at Huntington Beach Pier. Jack Boyes ripped his way into the final of the high school varsity final surfing for Huntington Beach High School and placed sixth.  While, in the College Men’s division, Shaun Burrell took the win surfing for UC San Diego.  Burrell was riding his new 5’10” Blackstar model with prototype HGD fins that features a carbon fiber base, which emulates a glass-on fin and provides more drive.  Look for the new HGD fins to be released this summer.

Color Pigment Laminations Now Available

We’ve recently introduced color pigment laminations as an option on all custom Superstix including EPS epoxies.  The color is mixed with the epoxy resin as it is laminated. The result is a board with a fresh and classic look that will stand out from others at your local break.

We are able to offer this new option thanks to the talented Memphis Mafia himself – James, who brings his laminating talents to the Superstix team and will be handling all our in-house custom laminating.

Jack Boyes Video on Superstix Refugee Model

Have a look at Jack Boyes from Huntington Beach ripping around his hometown on the new Superstix Refugee prototype model. Jack is a senior at Huntington Beach High School and is captain of their surf team. Look for the Refugee model from Superstix to be released in the Spring 2012.
